Mount Veeder Wineries are famous for producing premium-quality, mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. These are age-worthy, often rustic wines with well-structured tannins.
Mount Veeder Wine Country
Mount Veeder wineries are renowned throughout the world. Great wines are made by producers such as Jade Mountain, Chateau Potelle and Mount Veeder Winery. There are currently about 15 Mount Veeder Wineries and 25 vineyard owners in the region. Many are open to the public for wine tours and tastings.
Mount Veeder Wine is produced in an elevated, sunny climate. Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Syrah and Merlot thrive in these conditions. Mount Veeder Wineries also make some great Syrah Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.
The terrain of Mount Veeder Wine Country was created by ancient uplifts of oceanic crust. Soils on the mountain are mainly sedimentary, very thin and well-drained. Mount Veeder has less volcanic influence in its soils than other mountain wine regions in the Valley
Mount Veeder has a long history of producing distinguished vintages. During the 1860s, Captain Stalham Wing was the first to plant vineyards and make wine. Robert and Elinor Travers led the revival of the viticultural region when they purchased Mayacamas Vineyards in 1968.
