Humanitas is Latin for, “philanthropy,” and the winery’s fitting motto is, “Enjoy Humanitas… Drink Charitably!” All of the profits are donated to local non-profits that work to solve problems involving housing, hunger, and illiteracy.

In 1997, Judd Wallenbrock established Humanitas in the southern part of the Napa Valley AVA. Before starting his own venture, he worked in the wine industry for over 2 decades. Realizing that there were already many California wineries, Wallenbrock wanted to set himself apart.

His solution was extremely innovative. Wallenbrock founded Humanitas with the mission of giving all of the profits to 3 main charities: Habitat for Humanity, America’s Second Harvest, and Reading is Fundamental. The winery gained an immediate following not just for its quality, but also for its noble purpose.

Humanitas produces a number of wines with grapes sourced from different California AVAs. These include the 2003 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004 Monterey Chardonnay, and 2003 Santa Barbara County Chardonnay. All of these wines are priced very affordably and are excellent values.
