St Amant Winery

Mark as Favorite

St Amant Winery specializes in Zinfandel as well as warm weather grapes that are indigenous to the Mediterranean Coast. St Amant owns their own estate vineyard and also sources fruit from Amador County in the Sierra Foothills.

Region: Central Valley
Sub Region: Lodi
Wine: View all wines

Established in 1981, the winery is located in the Lodi AVA. In 1979, owner Tim Spencer took the revolutionary step of grafting 2 acres of Zinfandel vines to 5 native grapes of Portugal’s Douro Valley. These varietals included Touriga, Tinta Cao, Souzao, Alvarelhao, and Bastardo. Spencer has since planted Tempranillo and Barbera as well.

A handcrafted and meticulous approach is taken to every step of the wine growing process. Grapes are selectively harvested and hand sorted to ensure that no leaves or unsatisfactory fruit is included in the must.

Open top containers are used during the fermentation process allowing cellars workers to both punch down and pump over the cap. The must is then pressed and racked into small oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. Fining and filtering is eschewed whenever possible.

St Amant produces several different wines including the 2005 Lodi Mohr-Fry Old Vine Zinfandel, 2005 Lodi Barbera, 2005 Amador Verdelho, 2004 Amador Tempranillo, 2005 Lodi Marian’s Vineyard Zinfandel, 2004 Amador Tres Cachos, and 3 different Ports.
