Arrowood Vineyards

In 1986, Richard Arrowood founded Arrowood Vineyards and Winery. He brought an impressive resume to his new venture in the eastern hills of the Sonoma Valley AVA.

Arrowood Vineyards was established in 1985. Richard Arrowood was formerly winemaker and then executive vice president of Chateau St Jean. Arrowood Vineyards originally produced Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, but has gradually expanded to different varietals.

Arrowood began working for Korbel in 1965. He was hired as winemaker for Chateau St Jean in 1974. His 2000 Saralee’s Vineyard Syrah has an incredibly complex nose with berry, chocolate, and licorice notes. The flavor profile is dominated by spice and framed by oak. This is a great Sonoma Valley Syrah.

The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is a forward, assertive wine. Dark berry flavors, oak and rounded tannins blend very well. It is not overpowering, and pairs well with hearty fare. The Arrowood 1999 Merlot initially has jammy flavors that develop into complex, leathery notes. Oak and spice round out the flavor profile.
