Carr Vineyards & Winery released its first vintage in 1999. Carr sources its grapes from growers in Santa Barbara County. The winery focuses on Pinot Noir which is very successful in the Santa Rita Hills. It also produces Syrah, Pinot Gris and Cabernet Franc. Owner Ryan Carr moved to Santa Ynez with the purpose of entering winemaking.

Mr. Carr has set up Carr Vineyards & Winery as a winery and as a vineyard management and development company. He manages about 100 acres in Santa Barbara County. Dan and Ellen Kessler sewed the Kessler-Haak Vineyard in 2005. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay comprise its makeup. Turner Vineyard is owned by Dennis and Daphne Turner and produces Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Mr. Carr planted Syrah and Pinot Gris on the Hawkeye Vineyard in 2004. Owned by Joel Mann, this vineyard is one of the steepest. The Morehouse Vineyard is small and features Syrah. It is well known for the quality of its grapes. The Paredon Vineyard was planted in 2000 and is located on the seaside of the Santa Barbara mountain ranges. Mr. Carr serves as winemaker for the Paredon Winery label.

Visitors may taste Carr Vineyards wines at the downtown Santa Barbara location. Tastings and wines by the glass may be enjoyed over the barrel top bar. The building itself is a Quonset Hut that dates to the 1940s. Mr. Carr hopes to continue to grow his production.
