High Valley Vineyard

High Valley Vineyard is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. Owners Dustin and Bobby Brassfield made their first vintage in 2003 in very limited quantities. They are currently planting new vineyards with several other varietals.

The 25 acre vineyard was established in 1999 by Dustin and Bobby Brassfield. It located on extremely steep terrain between 2,000 and 2,200 feet above sea level. The vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.

In 2003, they released 150 cases of their inaugural 2003 vintage. Until that year, most of their grapes were sold to other wineries. The Brassfields have plans to expand their vineyard and intend to plant Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Syrah.

High Valley Vineyard is composed almost entirely of volcanic soils. The nearby Round Mountain Volcano created the valley long ago by blocking the watersheds that drained once drained to Clear Lake. By sealing off the western side of the valley, debris from the volcano also began to trap cool air in the region. This is one of the primary reasons for High Valley’s moderate climate.
