In 1991, Jed Steele founded Steele Wines. He was the founding winemaker at Kendall Jackson and currently has over 40 years of experience in the wine industry. Steele is an expert at blending different vineyard lots to make exceptionally balanced wines.

In 1996, Jed Steele moved his newly established winemaking operation to the old Mount Konocti Winery building. He is renowned for blending different lots from single vineyards.

Steele was previously the winemaker at Kendall Jackson and Edmeades Estate Winery in the Mendocino Ridge AVA. He makes several different varietals at his new venture including three single vineyard Zinfandels, five single vineyard Pinot Noirs and seven single vineyard Chardonnays. The winery also makes Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

Their Cabernet Franc is made with grapes sourced from the gravelly soils of Frank Silva’s vineyard in the Clear Lake AVA. It was aged in both French and American oak for 18 months. This varietal’s popularity has increased in recent years, but it can be tricky in California. Steele handles the temperamental grape masterfully and makes it into a delicious wine with ripe strawberry and raspberry flavors with mineral notes.
