When Wente Vineyards founder, C. H. Wente first came to Livermore Valley, he immediately recognized its potential for growing grapes. The warm day, cool nights and gravelly soils are perfect conditions for producing a wide variety of varietals.

With little delay, Wente purchased 48 acres and began planting wines. He was successful right off the bat; primarily due to the experience he gained working at the Charles Krug Winery. Since this time, Wente has produced many excellent wines in Livermore.

The Wente Family currently has access to grapes from vineyards located in four distinct AVAs. These include the Livermore Valley AVA, San Francisco Bay Area AVA, Arroyo Seco AVA, and Monterey County AVA. This allows Wente to produce a wide variety of wines in different price ranges.

The winery has several different quality levels, including their Vineyard Collection, Vineyard Reserve, Small Lot, Special Release, and Nth Degree Collection. The most sought after wines are in the Nth Degree Collection. They include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Shiraz; all made in very small amounts.

Wente also has a well maintained golf course. The course has a classic MacKenzie style design, while incorporating modern elements. It is beautifully cut out of the rolling hills. The course is available for play by the general public for a reasonable fee. Additionally, the property has a restaurant for dining after golf or wine tasting. In short, the entire experience at Wente Vineyards is a pleasure for the cultivated individual.
