Cathy Corison
Cathy Corison is a highly respected winemaker and sought-after consultant. After taking a wine appreciation class at Pomona College in the early 1970s, she realized her calling. “I really never looked back. Days after I graduated from college I made a beeline to Napa Valley and I have lived here ever since.”
In 1978, Corison began making wine for Freemark Abbey. After a few successful vintages, was hired as head winemaker for Chappellet Winery on Pritchard Hill. She stayed at Chappellet for about a decade, honing her skills and developing her own style of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Corison has always sought balance in her Cabs, and eschews the extremely fruit-forward, high-alcohol style that is so prevalent in California these days. In 1987, she founded Corison Winery in the southern part of the St Helena wine region. She makes 3,500 cases a year split amongst two Cabs and a Gewurztraminer. Cathy’s husband, William Martin, is also involved in the family business.
The Kronos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is an estate wine that is made with organically farmed grapes from one of the oldest Cab properties in Napa Valley. Kronos Vineyard is planted in the extremely well-drained soils of the Rutherford-St Helena bench. Corison also makes a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and an Anderson Valley Gewurztraminer named Corazon.
