Napa Valley Grape Growers
Before this association was formed, the price of grapes was not related to the end price of the wine. Andy Beckstoffer was and continues to be a strong proponent of leveling the economic playing field between growers and wineries.
On this subject, Beckstoffer has remarked, “Grape growers are now looking for an excellent winemaker who can sell his wine at a premium price, rather than just a home for their perishable product.” Beckstoffer is a also staunch advocate of limiting sprawling development in the Napa Valley, and has done much to protect the region’s vineyards.
The Napa Valley Grape Growers has been advocating the region’s wine industry for over 30 years. Like Beckstoffer, the association champions environmentally friendly policies in the vineyard. It currently has about 425 members.
They are also concerned with preventing and fighting disease in the vines. This includes combating phylloxera and more recently preventing infestation of the glassy winged sharpshooter which spreads Pierces Disease.
