DESCRIPTION OF WINE TOUR

The first stop will be at Dover Canyon Winery. This winery is dog friendly, but the staff does ask that visitors check with the winery first before removing dogs from vehicles. Dover Canyon concentrates on Rhone varietals and Zinfandel. It is named for the canyon that swathes through Paso Robles and enables the area to receive the cool sea air. The tasting room is located in a wine barn.

Next, move on to Tablas Creek Vineyard. This vineyard also serves as a vine nursery. Tablas Creek maintains a partnership with NovaVine Nursery in Sonoma, where customers can purchase budwood and grafted vines using Tablas Creek vinifera material. Tablas Creek is farmed organically. It is a partnership between the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas. They imported varietals that were traditionally grown on the Perrins’ estate. These grapes include Counoise, Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah, Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier and Grenach Blanc.

After tasting a bit of France, head to Adelaida. This winery rests amid a 600-acre orchard. The tasting room is an open plan so that visitors may observe the lovely surroundings and the work that takes place in a vineyard. Stop and take a moment to have a picnic lunch. Guests also may call ahead to have a private tasting in Adelaida’s Green Room. This Sustainable in Practice certified vineyard is on what was once a small town just west of Paso Robles. Enjoy the Grenache, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Viognier or Chardonnay.

Last stop of the day is Justin Wine. Visitors are given information on the vineyard’s history, practices and tasting in the Old World-style tasting room. Justin Winery was founded by Justin and Deborah Baldwin in 1981 and planted with Bordeaux style wines. This winery also has a bed and breakfast and a restaurant. Enjoy some of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah.
